Why We Recommend Permanent Squirrel Exclusion
Squirrels can be difficult to trap. Removing one does not close the opening it used, and other squirrels nearby may take its place. For squirrels entering a house, we recommend humane removal followed by permanent exclusion instead of relying on repeated trapping.
Squirrel Exclusion & Home Protection
Your home’s construction, entry points, access, and repair needs determine the scope and price. The written proposal explains the work included:
- Humane removal or a custom-fitted one-way exit
- Checks for dependent young
- Camera monitoring as specified in the proposal
- Follow-up and reinspection
- Permanent metal repairs to covered openings
- Disinfecting and deodorizing as scoped
- One-year warranty on qualifying exclusion work
Humane Exit, Monitoring and Permanent Metal Closure
The squirrel leaving is one step. We monitor the opening, reinspect the property and complete the metal repair before the warranty begins.
Listen and inspect
Understand the activity, inspect the home and attic, and identify the active opening.
Fit the one-way exit
Install a custom-fitted device on the opening the squirrels are using.
Treat the attic
Complete the disinfecting treatment specified in the written proposal, following product-label directions.
Complete approved exclusion
Address the additional vulnerabilities included in the written scope.
Monitor by camera
Watch the active opening and confirm squirrel activity during the process.
Return next week
Reinspect the property and check for new chew openings or changed conditions.
Remove and close
After confirming exit, remove the one-way and close the opening with metal.
Deodorize the den
Address lingering odors with the deodorizing treatment included in the written scope.
Begin the warranty
The one-year warranty on the completed covered work begins after final closure.
Squirrel Removal Built Around the True Care Home Protection Standard™
A squirrel leaving does not correct the construction gap or chew damage that made the home vulnerable. Our standard connects today’s activity to long-term protection.
Understand the Home
Listen, inspect and identify the animal, active entrance, damage and additional vulnerabilities.
Solve Today’s Wildlife Problem
Use humane wildlife removal and a monitored one-way process while checking carefully for dependent young.
Help Protect for the Future
Complete approved wildlife exclusion, close the opening with metal, deodorize and back the covered work in writing.
What Squirrel Noises Sound Like in Oklahoma City Attics
Squirrels are usually most active in the morning. Their movement is quick, light and energetic—fast scurrying, running and chewing rather than the slow nighttime thuds associated with raccoons.
Customers often tell us, “It sounds like they are having a party up there,” and the inspection confirms squirrels. Mice and rats are more sporadic and may be heard at different times. If you are unsure, use our Oklahoma wildlife identification guide or learn more about scratching and movement in attics and walls.
- Fast running or scurrying near sunrise
- Movement traveling quickly across the ceiling
- Chewing or gnawing in one area
- Sudden energetic activity followed by quiet

This squirrel climbs a chimney in seconds—the same speed homeowners hear moving across an attic.
How Squirrels Enter Oklahoma City Homes
By far, the most common pattern we find begins at the eaves. Squirrels spend time along the roof edge, find a small construction gap near the rafters and chew it wider until they can enter.
A starting gap may be only about a quarter inch. The finished chew often forms a recognizable half-moon pattern. See more examples of how wildlife gets into Oklahoma homes.
- Eaves and open roof returns
- Small construction gaps near rafters
- Soffits, fascia and siding edges
- Roof and gable vents
- Wood-shingle roofing, where squirrels can chew almost anywhere they choose
Squirrel Defacing and Half-Moon Chew Marks
True Care Wildlife also finds what we call squirrel defacing: repeated chewing on siding, fascia or trim around areas where squirrels regularly sit and travel. The behavior can leave multiple half-moon chew marks, but every mark does not necessarily connect to the attic.
A complete inspection distinguishes the active entry point from exterior defacing and from construction vulnerabilities that could become future openings.
Squirrels Immediately Test Their Old Entrance
After leaving through the one-way exit, this squirrel tries to return through the temporarily protected opening. It shows why wildlife problems can keep coming back when the den and opening are not handled completely.
Baby Squirrels in Oklahoma City Attics
Baby squirrels in attics are possible, but in our field experience they are not nearly as common as mother raccoons using attics as maternity dens. Squirrels appear to seek Oklahoma attics for cold-weather shelter more often than specifically to raise young.
We still check carefully on every job. When dependent young are present, True Care Wildlife uses proprietary humane steps designed to make sure nothing is left behind and the family exits appropriately.
Squirrel Damage to Wiring and Insulation
Squirrels are notorious chewers. Inside attics we find damaged wiring, tunnels and compressed paths through insulation, nesting material, scattered droppings and odor.
They appear especially attracted to low-voltage wiring. If a doorbell, alarm component or other low-voltage system unexpectedly stops working while squirrel activity is present, attic chewing may be part of the problem. Electrical concerns should be evaluated by an appropriate licensed electrical professional.
- Chewed low-voltage and electrical wiring
- Damaged or displaced insulation
- Nesting material and stored food
- Droppings, urine and odor
- Expanded openings that other wildlife can use
When physical waste removal or insulation replacement is needed, it is separately scoped through attic cleanup and restoration.
Squirrels in Oklahoma City Attics: Why Calls Increase in Fall and Winter
Our squirrel activity increases in fall and winter. In our experience, squirrels seek attic shelter from the cold more often than they seek attics specifically to have babies.
Squirrel Removal Pricing and Price Matching
Start with a free squirrel inspection. Permanent squirrel exclusion is quoted on-site. Trapping is available when appropriate, but it does not repair the openings that let squirrels inside.
| Service | Starting price | What it includes |
|---|---|---|
| Free squirrel inspection | $0 | We assess the problem and explain your options. Paid services require separate approval. |
| Squirrel exclusion & home protection | Quoted on-site | Property-specific humane removal, repairs, monitoring, and treatments as detailed in the written proposal. One-year warranty on qualifying exclusion. |
| Professional trap setup | $299 + $199 per captured squirrel | Professional placement and setup, with a separate removal/relocation fee for each captured squirrel. Camera monitoring is separate. |
| Already-caged squirrel removal | $199 per squirrel | Removal/relocation when the squirrel is already secured in a suitable cage. Handling follows applicable wildlife requirements. |
| Separately purchased camera monitoring | $199 for seven days | For monitoring purchased outside a quoted exclusion project. Your exclusion proposal identifies any monitoring already included. |
| Physical waste removal or attic restoration | Separate proposal | Based on documented contamination and the work needed. |
The Warranty Begins After Final Closure
Qualifying squirrel exclusion includes a one-year warranty on the covered work after the squirrels are out, the covered openings are permanently repaired, and the process is completed. Your written agreement identifies the protected areas and coverage.
Qualifying broader exclusion and Full Home Protection work may be eligible for annual renewal under the Renewable Lifetime Wildlife Protection Warranty. Whole-house coverage does not automatically apply to areas not included in the purchased scope.

Oklahoma City Squirrel Removal FAQ
How much does squirrel removal cost in Oklahoma City?
Start with a free squirrel inspection. Permanent exclusion and home protection are quoted after inspection. If trapping is appropriate, setup starts at $299 plus $199 per captured squirrel; separately purchased camera monitoring starts at $199 for seven days. We confirm the scope and price before paid work begins.
Why do you recommend exclusion instead of just trapping squirrels?
Squirrels can be difficult to trap, and catching one does not close an attic opening. Other squirrels nearby may use the same access. We recommend humane removal and permanent repairs for squirrels entering a structure; trapping alone does not prevent replacement animals.
Can you remove a squirrel I already caught in a cage?
Yes. Removal/relocation of an already-caged squirrel starts at $199 per squirrel. Call to confirm the cage, location, and access. Wildlife handling and relocation follow applicable requirements.
Is camera monitoring included?
Your written exclusion proposal identifies the monitoring included in that project. Camera monitoring purchased separately starts at $199 for seven days. We do not automatically add a separate monitoring charge to an accepted proposal that already includes it.
What do squirrels sound like in an attic?
Squirrels produce fast morning scurrying, running and chewing sounds. Homeowners often say it sounds like animals are having a party in the attic. Raccoons create slower nighttime thuds, while mice and rats are usually lighter and more sporadic.
Where do squirrels most commonly enter Oklahoma City homes?
The most common pattern we find begins at an eave or roof return. A squirrel uses a small construction gap as a starting edge and chews toward the rafter area, often creating a half-moon opening.
Can a squirrel enter through a quarter-inch construction gap?
A squirrel cannot pass through a quarter-inch gap, but it can use that small edge as a starting point and chew it into a full entrance.
What is squirrel defacing?
It is the term we use for repeated exterior chewing around siding, fascia or trim where squirrels spend time. Defacing can leave half-moon marks without every chew connecting to the attic.
Are baby squirrels common in Oklahoma attics?
They occur, and we check carefully, but our team encounters squirrel babies in attics much less often than raccoon kits. When present, we use proprietary humane steps designed to make sure nothing is left behind. Extra time or trips do not increase the accepted price.
Can squirrels cause a doorbell to stop working?
Possibly. Squirrels are notorious for chewing wiring and appear especially attracted to low-voltage lines. A failed doorbell or similar system alongside attic activity can justify a wildlife inspection and evaluation by an appropriate electrical professional.
Why should I avoid squirrel poison?
A poisoned squirrel may die in an inaccessible part of the structure and create a major odor. Poison also does not identify or permanently close the opening that allowed the squirrel inside. If an animal has already died inside, learn about dead-animal removal and odor services.
Why is deodorizing part of squirrel exclusion?
Deodorizing addresses lingering odors after the animals are out. It supports the cleanup portion of the written plan; it does not replace permanent entry-point repairs or guarantee that wildlife will avoid the property.
What does the one-year squirrel warranty cover?
The warranty applies to the completed covered work after final closure. Full-home and renewable lifetime protection require qualifying exclusion work and active renewal under the complete warranty terms.
