Mother skunks commonly select protected spaces where their young can remain hidden. During the part of the year when babies may be present, we use camera evidence and monitored movement to make sure the family leaves together.
Prematurely closing the opening can separate the mother from dependent young, trap animals beneath the structure and create a much worse odor problem. The safe timeline must be based on current evidence at the property—not a fixed calendar date.

Why Trapping Alone May Not Stop the Next Skunk
Trapping removes an animal. It does not remove the protected shelter that attracted it. If access beneath a deck, shed, porch or crawlspace remains open, another skunk—or a different animal—can reuse the same location.
